Semey International Airport solemnly opened after its reconstruction

The Kazakhstan’s Semey International Airport was inaugurated today with the participation of Governor of the region Danial Akhmetov. Kazakh, CIS and other foreign air carriers have already been notified about the opening of this airport, the Kazinform News Agency reports with reference to

Currently, the airport meets all international standards. It is capable of taking all types of aircraft, both passenger and cargo.

“The result of the reconstruction was the fact that we built a completely new runway with a length of 3,100 meters and installed new lighting equipment. In addition, the airport building was completely rebuilt. Currently we have two lines, namely the domestic sector and the international one. The capacity of each of these lines is 200 passengers per hour,” the first-class pilot Alexander Volkov said at the airport opening ceremony.

The repairs to the runway and the terminal building have been going on since December 2016. Initially, only the repair of the roof and replacement of windows was planned, but later the plans changed. As a result, taxiways and an apron were reconstructed, light-signaling equipment was installed, and the terminal building was repaired with the addition of a customs control area.
