Antimonopoly investigation is underway against airport in Kazakhstan’s Aktau

The Department for Regulation of Natural Monopolies and Competition Protection in Mangistau Region, Kazakhstan, conducts an investigation against the Aktau International Airport for abuse of monopoly position, Serzhan Sikhimbekuly, CEO, regional antimonopoly agency, told at the board meeting, according to the Kazinform News Agency, Kazakhstan.

“The Aktau International Airport JSC abuses the monopoly position, setting high prices for the rental of space for catering facilities on the territory of the passenger terminal, which in turn affects prices in them,” Mr. Sikhimbekuly explained.

He also noted that since the beginning of 2017, eight investigations have been launched into violations of competition protection legislation.

“Seven of them are brought to a logical conclusion, one investigation is continued in 2018. Also, in 2017, the Department conducted investigations into a number of government agencies,” Mr. Sikhimbekuly concluded.
