Kazakh airlines increase income

Air Astana’s revenues received, as a result of air transportation, increased by 27 percent per year, and reached KZT 295.6 billion (US $ 1 = KZT 324) in 2017, which is 12.5 percent of the total revenues of transport companies, as compared with 10.5 percent in 2016.

The official visit of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev to the United States gave a new impetus to develop the air transport sector in Kazakhstan. Thus, a contract was signed between Air Astana and the U.S. Air Lease Corporation company, involving the operational leasing of 10 Airbus NEO aircraft.

In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Air Astana and International Aero Engines, with the intention to conclude a contract for the maintenance of Airbus NEO aircraft engines in the future.

The airline’s passenger turnover grew by 29.9 percent in 2017, up to 14.4 billion passenger-kilometers.

The growth was also noted in the transportation of goods – by 23.9 percent, as compared to 2016 (up to 22.5 thousand metric tons). Freight turnover increased by 24.1 percent, as compared to 2016 (53.3 million metric ton-kilometers).
