Dushanbe – Tashkent flights to continue despite their unprofitable nature

The Civil Aviation Agency of Tajikistan has begun to verify the facts stated in the Uzbekistan Airways’ letter.

Previously, representatives of this airline said that the charges at the airport in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, are very high, and therefore they incur losses from each Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Dushanbe – Tashkent flight. Representatives of the Dushanbe International Airport called these statements to be groundless and they said that Uzbekistan Airways were provided with very large discounts.

Aziz Nabizoda, the First Deputy of the Civil Aviation Agency, Tajikistan, said on April 27 that at present the check on the Uzbekistan Airways’ request continues. He noted that “negotiations have already been held with the representatives of the airline in Tajikistan and the Tashkent – Dushanbe air service will not be interrupted”. According to Mr. Nabizoda, the flights between the two capitals, as well as cooperation with Uzbekistan Airways would be continued.

Orifjon Ruzimurodov, head of the Uzbekistan Airways representative office in Tajikistan, said, “Uzbekistan Airways sent a letter to the Dushanbe airport management with a request to reduce fees for airport services. But if we get a negative answer to our request, we will still make our flights, and even will try to increase their frequency.”

Representatives of the Dushanbe International Airport say that the level of prices for their services have been coordinated with the Antimonopoly Service of Tajikistan and, in their opinion, they do not have the right to independently reduce prices for individual airlines. Uzbekistan Airways operates its flights to the Tajik capital city once a week, on Tuesdays, on its A320 aircraft.
