Manas International Airport and Turkish company sign Memorandum of Cooperation

The Manas International Airport OJSC, Kyrgyzstan, and Gata Havayolları ve Taşımacılık A.Ş, Turkey, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation costing US $ 50 million.

Within the framework of the official visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Kyrgyzstan, a business forum with the participation of entrepreneurs from Kyrgyzstan and Turkey was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on September 2, 2018.

In a welcoming speech, Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov expressed his readiness to support Turkish investments in Kyrgyzstan.

In turn, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan focused the attention of Turkish businessmen on improving the sector of transport and aviation infrastructure of Kyrgyzstan.

Within the framework of the Forum, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Manas International Airport OJSC and Gata Havayolları ve Taşımacılık A.Ş, where the following projects were identified:

  • Create a transit postal and courier terminal on the territory of the Manas International Airport;
  • Improve the infrastructure of the Manas International Airport, including the VIP lounge, etc.;
  • Joint development of Air KG LLC, the subsidiary company of Manas International Airport OJSC, expansion of the flight map and acquisition of three aircraft.

To realize these goals, Gata Havayollarıve Taşımacılık A.Ş intends to invest 50,000,000 (fifty million) US dollars.

The implementation of these projects will give a number of multiplier effects:

  • Increase in the number of flights at the Manas International Airport;
  • Increase in cargo capacities at the airport;
  • Increase in the volume of customs payments to the budget of Kyrgyzstan;
  • Create new/additional jobs;
  • Contribute to the development of the real sector of the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic;
  • Strengthen trade and economic relations between Turkey and Kyrgyzstan.
