AZAL to receive its first Boeing 737 MAX new generation aircraft in 2019

Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL, part of AZAL CJSC) will receive its first Boeing 737 MAX new generation aircraft in 2019, the airline’s director Jamil Manizadeh said, Interfax-Azerbaijan writes.

“Beginning next year, the fleet of aircraft will be replenished by the new generation aircraft, such as Boeing 737 MAX, which will allow AZAL to expand its air route network,” Mr. Manizadeh said, the words of which are given in the AZAL CJSC message.

The CEO of the company also noted that in recent years AZAL has significantly increased its performance and will continue to work in this direction.

According to him, in 2018 AZAL confirmed the prestigious status of a four-star air carrier and, according to the British agency Skytrax, the air carrier was named the best regional airline in Central Asia and India.

Earlier it was reported that under the agreement concluded with the Boeing Company, the first two Boeing 737 MAX planes will be delivered to Azerbaijan by the end of 2018.

In April 2017, Silk Way Airlines, Azerbaijan and Boeing signed a contract for the purchase of 10 passenger Boeing 737 MAXs. AZAL will be the operator of these aircraft. The total amount of the agreement is about US $ 1 billion. All planes must be delivered to Azerbaijan before the end of 2020.

The total air route network of AZAL has about 40 destinations in 25 countries. In 2017, the airline carried over 2.2 million passengers.

Currently, AZAL operates such aircraft as Boeing 787, Boeing 767, Boeing 757, as well as Airbus 340, Airbus 320, Airbus 319 and Embraer 190.
