Kazakhstan’s SCAT Airlines plans to launch its flights to Mongolia, the Czech Republic and Saudi Arabia and continues to develop hub in Astana

In June 2019, SCAT Airlines, Kazakhstan, will launch its direct flight en route Astana – Ulan Bator, linking the capitals of Kazakhstan and Mongolia. This was reported by the air carrier’s PR service in response to a request from Forbes.kz.

The flight will be operated twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays. Travel time is 3 hours and 20 minutes. The airline has provided that passengers from Almaty, Shymkent, Taraz, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Aktau and Pavlodar could use convenient connections for this flight. The flight will be operated on Boeing-737 aircraft.

” Kazakhstan – Mongolia direct communication will allow representatives of the business community to plan business trips and save one of the main values of modern society — time. The launching of the Astana – Ulaanbaatar flight will support the development of tour operators operating in the inbound and outbound tourism markets and the development of networks. The flight is also designed for business and administrative flows of passengers. The launching of the flight Astana – Ulan Bator air route is another step to develop the airline’s hub program based on Astana International Airport”, it is said in the message of the air carrier’s PR division.

Earlier, back in 2016, Air Astana had its plans to launch the flight to Ulan Bator. However, the airline has not received permission to fly to Mongolia.

In addition to the new destination to Ulaanbaatar, SCAT is considering the possibility of launching other international flights. Here is what the Czech Embassy in Kazakhstan reported on Facebook on January 29, 2019: “The other day, Czech Ambassador to Kazakhstan Rudolf Gykl made his first working visit to Almaty, where he visited the honorary consulate of the Czech Republic in Almaty, the trade support agency CzechTrade, and held a number of fruitful meetings, in particular at the Foreign Office in Almaty, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and others. Of particular importance was the meeting with representatives of SCAT Airlines, which discussed the possibility of opening a direct flight to Prague.”

In addition, SCAT intends to open a direct flight to Saudi Arabia. As the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan reported on January 29, a meeting of the delegation of Kazakhstan with the aviation authorities of Saudi Arabia took place in Jeddah as part of the preparatory work on the organization of the Hajj season for Kazakhstani pilgrims. This year, the time of Hajj falls on the last month of summer (tentatively from August 9 to August 14). According to the requirements of the Saudi side, flights to Jeddah and Medina with pilgrims must be performed from July 4 to August 5, and pilgrims must depart from Saudi Arabia from August 17 to September 14, 2019.

During the meeting, the aviation authorities of the Kingdom announced the appointment of two airlines – Flynas and Nesma – to transport Kazakhstan pilgrims during the Hajj period. “Currently, SCAT is working to establish direct regular flights between Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia since the spring of this year. Thus, Kazakhstani pilgrims will be able to visit Saudi Arabia by direct flights not only during the Hajj season, but also during the year. In addition, direct scheduled flights between countries will strengthen trade and economic relations, as well as attract additional passenger traffic and tourists from the Arabian Peninsula to develop the tourism sector in Kazakhstan,” the CAC message said.

Last year, SCAT carried about 2.2 million passengers, the increase in passenger traffic over the year was more than 15%. The airline fleet consists of 21 aircraft manufactured by Boeing and CRJ. Only in domestic destinations in Kazakhstan, the carrier serves more than 50 air routes. The airline was included in the Forbes Kazakhstan rating “The 50 largest private companies in Kazakhstan” (December 2018).
