Tajikistan receives offer to restore air communication with Iran

The Civil Aviation Agency of Tajikistan is studying the proposal from one Iranian airline regarding flight operations en route Tehran, Iran – Dushanbe, Tajikistan – Tehran.

Ikrom Subkhonzoda, CEO, Civil Aviation Agency, Tajikistan, reported at a press conference on February 11, 2019, that they had recently received an offer from Iran through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan.

He did not specify the name of the airline, only noted that this airline was designated by the Iranian aviation authorities as a carrier of cargo and baggage on Tehran – Dushanbe flights.

Meanwhile, some sources in the aviation circles of Tajikistan report that the offer came from a small Iranian charter airline.

Note that Osmon Air, Iran, which previously operated its flights to Tajikistan, has not been flying from Iran to Tajikistan for almost two years.

Mr. Subkhonzoda said he did not know the reasons for the termination of flights to Tajikistan by this airline. He believes that “this may be due to their financial activities.”

On the Tajik side, Tajik Air operated its flights from Dushanbe to Tehran and Mashhad, which, according to Mr. Subhonzoda, is currently in a difficult financial situation.

“The flights will be restored after the improvement of the financial position of the airline,” he said.

The CEO of the Civil Aviation Agency of Tajikistan stressed that an Air Communication Agreement between Tajikistan and Iran is still in force.

“Tajikistan has created no any obstacles for flights of Iranian airlines,” he added.
