GAMA reported for 2018

At the press conference named State of the Industry, the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) announced the results of its work during 2018.

GAMA Chairperson and Gulfstream Aerospace President Mark Burns announced that in 2018, global aircraft shipments increased by 4.7%, to 2,443 units. The total cost of the aircraft increased by 1.5%, to $ 20.6 billion. Worldwide shipments of helicopters increased by 5.4%, from 926 to 976 units, and their total cost decreased slightly, by 0.7%.

Annual results show a significant increase in the supply of piston aircraft, by 5.0% to 1,139 units. Supplies of turboprop aircraft increased to 601 aircraft, business jets – from 677 (2017) to 703 units.

Last year, 281 piston helicopters were delivered, as compared to 264 in 2017. Preliminary data on gas turbine deliveries show an increase of 5.0%, to 695 deliveries (Leonardo Helicopters fourth quarter data was not available at the time of publication. The company will publish the year results in March. GAMA excluded Leonardo Helicopters data for the fourth quarter of 2017 when comparing annual results).

“This is the first year since 2013, when we see growth in supply in all segments,” said GAMA President and CEO Pete Bunce. “New certifications over the past two years, especially in the light jets segments, as well as the demand in North America, are driving an increase in the supply of business jets. Also for the second year in a row, when the volume of deliveries of piston and gas turbine helicopters is increasing due to the appearance of new models on the market.

“Despite the fact that the consequences of the U.S. Government’s ‘shutdown’ are still being felt and evaluated, we remain optimistic, given the recent type certificates and other certificates standing in line that foreshadow success for the large-size aircraft segment,” Mr. Bunce continued. “Also encouraging is the demand for certain types of aircraft that we are seeing in North America, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa.”
