Boarding rules for passengers change in Russia

At Russian airports, it will be possible to board the plane using an electronic boarding pass. The corresponding order of the Ministry of Transport came into force on February 24, RIA Novosti reports.

Now, with online check-in, passengers will receive their electronic boarding. In this case, airports will still be able to print their own boarding or get it at the reception. Airlines, in turn, are obliged to inform about the possibility of using an electronic ticket, including on their websites.

The Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport informed RIA Novosti this airport is technically ready to serve passengers via electronic boarding. The exact date for launching the service was not pronounced.

In turn, the Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport representative said that all exits for landing at a single terminal equipped with automated turnstiles (eGate): passengers can independently enter the pre-flight control area or the landing one. eGate recognizes a 2D barcode and a QR code in both paper and electronic form. However, the airport representative did not inform RIA Novosti from which date it will be possible to get on the plane by electronic ticket.

Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport also plans to introduce a new service this year, its representatives said.

According to an employee of the Basel Aero Company that manages the Krasnodar Territory airline offices, the airport in Sochi is technically ready to serve passengers using electronic boarding.

As regards the airport in Ufa, its representative informed RIA Novosti that since the end of 2018, more than a thousand passengers of UTair, S7 Airlines and Aeroflot airlines have already used the online ticket service.

The representative of the Khrabrovo International Airport in Kaliningrad noted that the airport is working towards the ability to apply electronic boarding for passengers.

According to the St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo International Airport, they are discussing the prospect of serving passengers via electronic boarding, but so far such services are not provided.
