Spelling of Ukrainian cities changes in Georgian airports of Tbilisi and Batumi

The international airports in Tbilisi and Batumi, Georgia, have changed the spelling of Ukrainian cities. This is about the transcription of cities in Latin letters.

According to the explanation of the Ukrainian side, still while writing the names of cities in Latin, the names of some cities were written in Russian transcriptions, which they have already corrected in all official channels.

In October 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, together with the StratCom Ukraine Center for Strategic Communications launched the #CorrectUA online campaign, which aims to popularize the spelling of city names in Latin letters, including the capital of Ukraine, # KyivNotKiev, #KharkivNotKharkov, #LvivNotLvov, and #OdesaNotOdessa.

After this, world airports gradually began to correct spelling of Ukrainian cities on their flight schedule boards.

TAV Georgia, the management company of the international airports in Tbilisi and Batumi, explained that they had already changed their names, and Kyiv was written instead of Kiev, instead of Kharkov – Kharkiv, instead of Lvov – Lviv, and instead of Odessa – Odesa.
