Mi-8 helicopter crashes – the most well-known cases lately

The crash of a military Mi-8 helicopter in the Kyzylorda region, which occurred yesterday, March 27, as usual, caused concern throughout Kazakhstani society. The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported that a helicopter flew as part of an exercise. When it crashed killed 13 soldiers on board. It was also reported that the flight took place in difficult weather conditions.

Mi-8 – one of the most massive helicopters

As is known, the Mi-8 helicopter, the production of which began in 1965, is one of the most common models of rotary-winged cars in the world – more than 12 thousand units have been built in various versions of the Mi-8. In general, this helicopter is considered one of the most reliable (at one time it was produced as a government salon) and purchased for civilian and military purposes by many countries. Perhaps due to the fact that these helicopters are in operation a lot, quite often in the media there are reports of various incidents related to this aircraft.

For example, in February 2018, the military Mi-8 of the Ethiopian Air Force was wrecked, 3 people were killed, 10 were injured.

The crash involving the Mi-8 occurred in July 2018 in Tajikistan, where a helicopter carrying climbers, most of whom were citizens of Russia, made a hard landing in the mountains. The accident killed 3 Russian climbers and 2 crew members, 13 people survived. The cause of the accident was a strong wind and poor visibility.

In August 2018, the Mi-8 made a hard landing at the airfield in the Chelyabinsk region of the Russian Federation and caught fire. There were no casualties.

Also in August 2018, the Mi-8 crashed in the Krasnoyarsk Territory of the Russian Federation, carrying oil workers. After the crash, the helicopter collapsed and burned out. The crew of 3 people and 15 passengers died. The crew of the helicopter was found guilty of the incident.

In September 2018, the Mi-8 crashed in the Irkutsk Region of Russia, killing 3 people.

In November 2018, the Mi-8 made a hard landing in the Tver region of the Russian Federation while flying over the main gas pipeline. The crew and passenger were injured. As it turned out, 17 non-certified hoses were installed on the Mi-8T aircraft, ensuring the operability of the helicopter systems.

In December 2018, in the Tomsk region of the Russian Federation, the Mi-8 helicopter made a hard landing, the passengers were injured, there were no dead. The reason for the hard landing was the failure of the chassis.

Also in 2018 there were accidents with a Mi-2 helicopter. In August, the Mi-2 crashed, which cultivated fields in the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation. The pilot was killed.

In the same August of 2018, another Mi-2, a military man, crashed in Poland. The accident occurred during a landing, the helicopter caught fire, but the crew escaped.

Production of the Mi-2 was launched in Poland under license in the early 1960s. Due to the fact that the production of this model was completed in 1992, the existing Mi-2 helicopters do not have modern security systems and controls.

All helicopters sometimes fall

In general, helicopter accidents occur quite often in all countries of the world.

Last October, the Seahawk MH-60 helicopter crashed onto the deck of the US Navy’s Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier. There were no casualties.

In November 2018, a military helicopter of the Turkish Air Force crashed in Istanbul, killing 4 soldiers.

Already in January 2019, during a rehearsal of the parade, a military helicopter in Mali crashed while landing.

Large aircraft crashes are widely covered in the media

Aircraft crashes occurring in different countries attract the attention of the public, primarily due to the fact that large aircraft crashes, as a rule, lead to the death of many people.

For example, on February 18, the Iranian ATR-72 passenger aircraft of Aseman Airlines, operating a Teheran-Yasuj flight, crashed near the city of Semir in the Iranian province of Isfahan, crashing into the Dena Ridge. On board were 66 people, including crew members. They all died.

On February 11 last year, the An-148 “Saratov Airlines” passenger aircraft, which was flying from Moscow to Orsk, disappeared from radar screens a few minutes after taking off from Domodedovo Airport. The wreckage of the aircraft was found in the area of ​​the village Stepanovskoye, Ramensky District, Moscow Region. Onboard there were 71 people, including six crew members. All died.

On April 11, the Il-76 military transport aircraft crashed near the airport Boufarik of Blida province in the north of Algeria a few minutes after takeoff. He fell in the area of ​​agricultural fields and caught fire. Eyewitnesses reported that the airliner was flying at a very small height, his right engine was burning. 247 militaries and their families and 10 crew members were on board the fallen IL-76, all of them were killed.

On March 12, the plane of the Bangladeshi airline US-Bangla, en route from Dhaka – Kathmandu, crashed near the Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal. During the landing approach, he did not hit the runway and fell on a football field east of the airport, then the ship went into a fire. 49 people died.

On March 6, during an approach at the Khmeimim airfield in Syria, the An-26 transport plane of the Russian Defense Ministry crashed. The aircraft collided with the ground, about 500 meters before the runway. Onboard there were 33 passengers and 6 crew members, all died.

On May 18, 2018, the Global Air Boeing 737-200 plane crashed while departing from Havana airport. On board the ship were 113 people, including crew members, 112 of them died.

On 4 August, a JU52 HB-HOT plane from World War II crashed in Switzerland. There were 17 passengers and three crew members onboard, all of them died.

On September 9, 2018, a passenger plane flying from Juba fell into a lake in the central part of South Sudan. As a result of the crash, 21 people died, only 3 passengers survived.

In October 2018, the Lion Air passenger plane Boeing 737 fell into the sea near the west coast of the island of Java in Indonesia. Killed all aboard the liner 189 people.

Aviation is the safest mode of transport
