US aircraft designers announce development of supersonic passenger aircraft

The private US company named Hermeus announced on Monday that it will attract initial capital to the project to create its own supersonic passenger airliner, Trend reports with reference to Russia’s TASS News Agency.

According to the information provided by Hermeus, Khosla Ventures, the venture capital fund located in California, was its first financial partner. In addition, “additional participation from private investors” is provided. Hermeus does not specify the total amount of funds raised and the number of partners. The company said that the collected money will be used to develop and test the power plant designed aircraft.

According to the testimony of a startup Hermeus, based in Atlanta, Georgia, we are talking about building an airliner that can reach speeds of more than 5 Mach (about 6.2 thousand km/h). This will allow, for example, to reduce the time of the transatlantic flight en route New York – London from seven hours to one and a half, the company emphasizes. They did not explain at what stage the work to create the liner.

The firm’s management includes engineers and entrepreneurs who previously worked for the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), private US companies engaged in various commercial space development projects, including SpaceX and Blue Origin, as well as in military corporations industrial complex (MIC) of the United States, including Lockheed Martin.

The prototype plans to create its own supersonic airplane in about five years. Hermeus would like to start a mass production of such a liner within 8-10 years.

In 2018, the Boeing Corporation, as a giant US military-industrial center, announced its intention to create a supersonic passenger aircraft. In 2016, similar plans were announced by Virgin Galactic and Boom Technology, USA.
