CEO of Georgian Airports Association tells about prospects of Kutaisi International Airport

“It is very important that the airport in Kutaisi, Georgia, has become one of the regional centers for low-cost airline operations, and the more there are, the more its services will be used not only by citizens of Georgia, but also by foreigners,” said George Chogovadze, CEO, Georgian Airports Association (GAA).

According to him, the aim of the aviation authorities of Georgia is to attract the largest possible number of airlines, and for this, representatives of the GAA are actively working on the international arena. In particular, they recently took part in an international forum in Italy, where 250 airports and 65 airlines were represented.

“This is part of our strategy, which provides for an increase in the number of passengers in Georgia, within the framework of which we are increasing the number of flights. In particular, in June 2019, the Ukrainian low-cost company will start its flights to two cities of Ukraine, and Wizz Air, which has been successfully operating in Kutaisi for several years, will add six more flights to Europe since September 10, 2019. As a result, the total number of destinations will increase to 28,” Mr. Chogovadze said.

According to him, the passenger traffic of Georgian airports is permanently growing. In particular, in 2018 it amounted to five million.

The growth continues even now – for just Jan-May 2019, the number of passengers using the services of the airport in Tbilisi has increased by 12%, as compared to the same period of 2018, the one in Kutaisi – by 69%, and the one in Batumi – by 24%.
