Helicopter aftermarket trends

Aero Asset, headquartered in Toronto, Canada, has published a report on the secondary helicopter market for the second quarter of 2019. The report evaluates the liquidity of used twin-engine helicopters, tracks prices and breaks down sales and supply volumes, on a quarterly and yearly basis.

Sales of twin-engine helicopters in the secondary market grew in all weight categories, with the exception of medium-sized helicopters, which account for 30% of the total transaction volume since the beginning of the year. VIP customers have registered over 60% of all transactions since the beginning of the year.

EC / H145 and AW109S / SP were the most liquid in the twin-engine helicopter market in the Q2 2019. Six helicopters were sold during Apr-Jun 2019, which corresponds to the absorption level of 6 and 12 months. The absorption rate is defined as the time it takes to sell all helicopters in the market, in the absence of new revenues.

The least liquid is Bell 412 with one deal in the second quarter and a takeover rate of 6 years. The H225 aftermarket continues to improve thanks to two transactions in the second quarter and several more transactions are currently pending.
