Russia’s Ministry of Transport informs about the debt of Georgian airlines

The debt of Georgian airlines to Moscow, Russia, for air navigation services reached a million US dollars, Svetlana Petrova, Director, Civil Aviation State Policy Department, Ministry of Transport, Russia, said in her interview with RIA Novosti.

At the end of June 2019, the amount of US $ 792.5 thousand and RUR 592.3 thousand excluding the accumulated interest was announced.

Mrs. Petrova noted that ten years ago, the Ministry of Economic Development of Georgia agreed with the presence of overdue debt and presented a schedule for its repayment, however, payments are not made.

Since July 8, Russia interrupted flights to/from Georgia, the reason for the ban included the anti-Russian demonstrations that swept Tbilisi on June 20, 2019. Protesters opposed the participation of Russian delegates in the session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy.

A spokesperson for the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, called the suspension of flights a temporary measure and said that air traffic would be restored “when the slightest threat stemming from Russo phobic manifestations disappears.”
