Over 90 flights cancelled in Barcelona due to Iberia’s ground strike

Vueling Airlines, Spain, has cancelled at least 92 flights due to a strike by ground personnel of the Iberia Airlines, Spain, in Barcelona on August 30 – 31, 2019, TASS reported with reference to the 20minutos newspaper.

According to this source, Vueling decided to cancel 54 flights on Friday and 38 on Saturday. The air company estimates that the strike will affect about 14 thousand passengers.

About 2.5 thousand people form the Iberia ground staff numbers. We are talking about employees at the passenger check-in counters, loaders and other employees who provide services to about twenty air companies, including Vueling.

The previous strike of Iberia staff took place on August 24 – 25, 2019. As a result, over 100 flights were cancelled. The air company employees demand better working conditions.

The Barcelona International Airport is the second largest airport in Spain after the one in Madrid. In 2018, it serviced a record number of passengers in its history: about 50.1 million travelers used the services of the airport in Barcelona. This figure is by 6.1% higher than in 2017.
