Kazakhstan’s Almaty International Airport apologizes for the lack of conditions in its mother and child’s room

Kyrgyz citizen Elmar Kim complained about the terrible conditions in the mother and child’s room at Almaty International Airport, Kazakhstan. The airport, in turn, replied the passenger’s claims, the Kazinform News Agency reported.

“I recently flew home with my family to Kyrgyzstan. I had to make a transfer at the Almaty International Airport and we waited there for three hours. We flew with small children, so we immediately went to the mother and child’s room. My wife and I were in shock,” Mr. Kim was indignant on his Facebook page.

He complained about the lack of basic conditions. According to him, there was nothing in the room except a couch, a changing table, and a washbasin. He also noted high prices in the Almaty International Airport.

He compared two airports: one in Almaty and in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The comparison was not in favour of the Kazakhstan’s airport.

In turn, the Almaty International Airport responded to criticism, calling it fair, and apologized for the situation.

“Keeping these rooms in good condition (there are bathrooms, there is the possibility of hygiene, cleaning is carried out regularly and thoroughly), we were aware that objectively there was a minimum of comfort for mothers with their children. It so happened that we are forced to report on the plans right now, when the boiling point of discontent has risen to the limit. But in fact, the budget for the repair and equipment of all three rooms for passengers with children was approved two months ago. At the same time, it took us a while to conduct tenders and identify suppliers of services and materials – from wallpaper and furniture to household appliances and toys,” the Almaty International Airport noted.

The airport also added that, by now, not only all administrative procedures have been completed and contracts with contractors have been concluded, but new furniture has also been made.

“Changing tables, armchairs, sofas, purchased microwaves, water coolers, bottle warmers. In addition, agreements have been reached with partners who will provide hygiene products for free use in mother and child rooms. Repair, as scheduled, will begin no later than September 10 and will be completed as soon as possible. We’ll inform you immediately about the completion of repairs in the mother and child’s rooms,” the airport commented.
