Airbus delivers its thousandth Super Puma helicopter

Airbus Helicopters has delivered its 1,000th Super Puma helicopter: a twin-engine multi-role H215 assembled in Marignane, France, and handed over to the German Federal Police (Bundespolizei) to support the German Havarie Command, which manages maritime emergencies off of Germany’s coast.

At present, Super Puma helicopters operate about 100 customers in 59 countries. Helicopters of this family are used for aircraft, search and rescue operations, offshore transportation and government tasks.

The popular Super Puma family includes H225 and H215. The H225 helicopter, formerly known as the EC225, has the industry’s highest speed, range, load and reliability characteristics in the 11-ton twin-engine category. As the “youngest” member of the Airbus Super Puma family, the H225 has been developed based on proven technology and customer experience around the world. Equipped with two powerful Turbomeca Makila 2A turbine engines, a robust five-blade rotor and a Spheriflex hub, the H225 offers customers long range and high cruising speed along with a long flight duration of more than 5 hours 30 minutes. The total flying time of the Super Puma family of helicopters, to which the H225 belongs, exceeded the mark of 5,000,000 hours during operations carried out worldwide under all weather conditions, including in difficult sea conditions.

The proven H215 helicopter is available in two configurations depending on customer needs. This model is characterized by high load capacity and efficiency and can be operated in the most severe conditions. Certified by EASA and FAA, the H215 helicopter is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technologies to provide protection against exceeding the operating range of flight conditions, unsurpassed accuracy and stability even in the most severe weather conditions. This twin-engine helicopter has outstanding flight performance and high operational availability, and is also competitive in terms of operating costs. It is available in two configurations: for multipurpose use (formerly the AS332 L1e model) and for aviation operations (formerly the AS332 C1e model).

The first helicopter will be manufactured at a new plant in Romania, where all H215 helicopters will be assembled in a functional standard configuration, which involves a number of additional features. This new concept will meet the widest range of customer needs of the company.
