Kazakhstan’s regional Bek Air Airlines plans to acquire 10 MS-21s after the start of their mass production

The main event of the MAKS-2019 in Zhukovsky near Moscow, Russia, at the end of August 2019 included the presentation of MS-21. The Irkut Corporation, Russia, intends initiate serial production of this latest passenger aircraft in 2021.

When talking to reporters, the President of Irkut Corporation PJSC and Sukhoi Civil Aircraft JSC Ravil Khakimov said that Kazakhstan’s regional airline named Bek Air plans to acquire 10 MS-21s after the start of their serial production. An Agreement of Intent was signed.

Nowadays, Bek Air operates a very good but rapidly aging regional Fokker 100 aircraft, the production of which was discontinued in 1997. The air company’s fleet must be updated; its further development depends on this. But why exactly the MS-21?

According to Mr. Khakimov, the catalog cost of the MS-21 will be 20% lower than that of its foreign counterparts. To date, the situation is approximately as follows:

  • MS-21-300 – US $ 96.1 million;
  • Boeing-737 MAX 8 – US $ 110.9 million;
  • Boeing-737 MAX 9 – US $ 116.6 million;
  • A 320 neo – US $ 106.2 million.

MS-21-300 is the basic version with its carrying capacity of up to 211 passengers and a flight range of up to 6,000 km. The liner, according to its developers, is based on two criteria, namely economic efficiency and comfort.
