Two Russian airlines plan to enter Kazakhstan civil aviation market

Ural Airlines and Pobeda Airlines, Russia, plan to enter the Kazakhstan civil aviation market, the Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan Beibut Atamkulov announced at a government meeting on October 7, 2019.

According to him, the Ministry is already taking measures to increase the attractiveness of flights to Kazakhstan. The Minister noted that Qatar Airways, Emirates and China Eastern Airlines also plan to enter the air transportation market.

Mr. Atamkulov added that flights on 99 international air routes to 26 countries of the world are currently carried out from Kazakhstan. In addition, Kazakhstan air carriers plan to launch flights to Shanghai, New York and Singapore.

As REGNUM reported earlier, during the Jan-Aug 2019 period, airfare in Kazakhstan increased by 8.4%. The greatest growth is noted in the Mangistau region – 24.4%.

Beibut Atamkulov, Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development, Kazakhstan, spoke about plans to introduce direct flights to Kazakh cities, Kazinform reported.

“Since 2017, the ‘open sky’ mode has been introduced in Nur-Sultan. Over 3 years, Kazakhstan and foreign air carriers launched 19 new air routes, including ones to Tokyo, Warsaw, Budapest, Helsinki and others. The frequency of flights to London, Moscow, Beijing and Istanbul increases. Kazakh air carriers have plans to launch flights to such large cities, as Shanghai (2020), Singapore (2020) and New York (2021),” Mr. Atamkulov said at a government meeting.

According to him, Kazakhstan has air links with 26 countries on 99 international air routes (these are 430 flights per week by 26 foreign and three Kazakh airlines).

The Minister spoke about plans to introduce an “open skies” mode at the airports of Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Shymkent, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Pavlodar, Kokshetau, Taraz, Petropavlovsk, Semey. It is also planned to provide all foreign airlines with the 5th degree of freedom of air for flights to priority financial centers.

“Several years ago, three foreign companies, namely Austrian Airlines, Czech Airlines and KLM suspended their flights to Kazakhstan for commercial reasons,” the Minister recalled. “However, now the ministry is taking measures to increase the attractiveness of flights to our country and a number of foreign carriers are planning to enter the Kazakhstan market.”

Mr. Atamkulov also spoke about companies that plan to enter the Kazakhstani market.

“In the near future, the arrival of airlines such as Qatar Airways (Doha, 2020), Emirates (Dubai, 2021), China Eastern (Shanghai, 2021), Ural Airlines, Pobeda Airlines and others is expected,” Mr. Atamkulov concluded.
