AIRBUS delivers its 1000th A320NEO family aircraft

Airbus delivered its 1,000th A320neo family aircraft. It was the A321neo, assembled at the Airbus factory in Hamburg, Germany, which was solemnly handed over to IndiGo Airlines, India.

IndiGo is the largest customer and operator of the A320neo family aircraft. In total, IndiGo ordered 430 aircraft of this type. The first NEO aircraft was delivered to the air company in March 2016. Since then, the airline has steadily increased its fleet of A320neo family aircraft and currently it operates 96 aircraft of this type.

A320neo airplanes are assembled at Airbus plants in Toulouse, Hamburg, Tianjin and Mobile. The first A320neo aircraft was delivered in January 2016, while the delivery of the A321neo took place in 2017. The longer-range NEO version, known as the A321LR, was handed over to the first operator in 2018.

The A320neo family is the most successful in its class. Currently, Airbus has received over 6,660 orders from more than 110 customers for this type of aircraft. Thanks to a new generation of engines and Sharklets wingtips, A320neo can reduce jet fuel consumption “per seat” by 20%, and noise levels by 50%, as compared with previous generation aircraft. In addition, the aircraft is equipped with a more comfortable cabin, and is also the quietest among the aircraft of this class.
