Turkmenistan Airlines gets permission to fly over EU

On October 14, 2019 the CEO of Turkmenistan Airlines Dovran Saburov reported to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov that the airline had successfully passed a check for compliance with the requirements of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), according to the TDH state news agency.

“EASA experts gave a good assessment of the ongoing work in the country to ensure the safety of flights operated by Turkmen Airlines and the equipment of the country’s airports.” According to the requirements, the work of the border, customs and migration services of the Ashgabat airport has also been established” Mr. Saburov reported.

It should be noted that the TDH report does not mention the ban on flights for Turkmen air carrier aircraft over the territory of the EU countries, which has been in force since February 2019.

According to the publication, the President of Turkmenistan stressed that the positive results of the checks will allow to establish passenger traffic in the European direction.

The President gave two months to Deputy Prime Minister for Transport, Communications and Industry Bayramgeldi Ovezov and the CEO of Turkmenistan Airlines to resume flights to the EU.

Considering that the airline operates on a self-supporting basis, the President said that the most demanded destinations should be determined based on the calculation of market prices, considering all forthcoming expenses and incomes.

In early October, EASA representatives did not respond to questions from the Chronicles of Turkmenistan about the audit of the Turkmen airline, saying that if the audit was successfully completed, Turkmenistan Airlines would be included in the list of air carriers licensed to fly to EU countries. Now, Turkmenistan Airlines is on this list.
