Burjanadze: Georgia must take steps to restore flights from Russia

Russia is ready to restore direct flights to Georgia, but for this, the Georgian authorities must take adequate steps. The ex-speaker of the Georgian parliament, the leader of the opposition party named ‘United Georgia – Democratic Movement’ Nino Burjanadze wrote on her Facebook page on October 17, 2019.

The politician noted that the decision made on October 16 by the Federal Air Transport Agency, Russia, to issue admission to S7 Airlines, Russia, for flights from Moscow, Russia, to Kutaisi, Georgia, testifies to Russia’s readiness to restore air services. At the same time, Mrs. Burjanadze appealed to the authorities, indicating that Moscow expects “normal, adequate statements and expressions of interest” from Georgia. “Take this step!” Mrs. Burjanadze urged.

As REGNUM reported earlier, during her speech on the First Channel of Russian Television, Nino Burjanadze spoke about the need to establish relations between Georgia and Russia. The leader of the party “Democratic Movement – United Georgia” then called on the Russian authorities to resume direct air communication and pointed to the steps that the Georgian government should take. She also held a series of meetings in the Presidential Administration, in the Federation Council and the State Duma of Russia.

Recall that on July 8, the Federal Air Transport Agency suspended direct flights between the two countries after the riots in Tbilisi following the visit of the Russian parliamentary delegation and the scandalous remarks by Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili.
