Turkish Airlines launches non-stop Istanbul – Ulaanbaatar flights, reducing the fifth degree of freedom of flights via Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

Turkish Airlines announced on launching non-stop flights en route Istanbul, Turkey – Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, thus reducing the fifth freedom of flight (not flying via Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan).

What is the Fifth Freedom of Flight?

Fifth freedom gives airlines the right to carry passengers and cargo from one foreign state to another when flying from their native countries.

These types of flights are operated for various reasons, including:

  • Due to the distance, it may not be possible to get the final destination without stops, therefore such a stop is needed;
  • It may happen that the demand for a flight without stops is insufficient, therefore, by adding a stop, they can increase demand.

There are dozens of Fifth Freedom flights ranging from Singapore Airlines’ New York – Frankfurt – Singapore flights, South African Airways’ Washington – Dulles – Accra flights continuing to Johannesburg, and Emirates’ New York – Milan flights.

Turkish Airlines serves more countries than any other airline in the world, and Mongolia is one of these countries.

Turkish Airlines will add non-stop Istanbul – Ulaanbaatar flights since the beginning of 2020. At the same time, the airline will reduce its Fifth Freedom flight en route Bishkek – Ulaanbaatar.

It seems that the flight will be operated by one of the Turkish Airlines’ A330-200 high-density aircraft with reclining seats in business class, which is still an upgrade from their 737 business class.

According to Airlineroute, from January 1, 2020, Turkish Airlines will introduce three weekly non-stop Istanbul – Ulaanbaatar flights. The airline will operate the air route according to the following flight schedule:

Flight No. TK362: departure from Istanbul – at 07:55 pm, arrival in Ulaanbaatar – at 09:20 am (the next day);

Flight No. TK363: departure from Ulaanbaatar – at 10:50 a.m., arrival in Istanbul – at 02:30 p.m.
