Georgian Air Navigation Agency meets winter season with its new air navigation system

The Georgian Air Navigation Agency (GANA) is responsible for the introduction and proper operation of technologies that help aircraft operating accurate and safe flights, according to the GANA website.

As one noted in the message, over the past period, the Georgian Air Navigation Agency carried out two major projects at the Tbilisi International Airport. The first phase of the replacement of flight tracking systems was successfully completed, and the runway lighting system was expanded by 420 meters.

According to the established ICAO procedures, the system was checked by ANS CR, the Czech Republic. The compliance of new technologies with international standards was recognized by the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency. Based on this, the lighting technology of the extended runway officially went into operation.

Gocha Mezvrishvili, CEO, Georgian Air Navigation Agency, said, “We are meeting the winter season even more prepared. Both projects are important for safe flights.”

In parallel, work is underway on a project to extent the runway’s light-signal system to be 900 meters long, the completion of which will be the basis to assign the ICAO’s first category, i.e. 13R rate, to the Tbilisi International Airport’s runway, according to the GANA.
