Russia, Georgia may resume flights in 2020

The ban on Russia – Georgia air traffic can be lifted in the first half of 2020, Izvestia, Russia, writes with reference to an informed government source.

As it became known, the resumption of flights between the countries could occur before the end of this year, however, this was prevented by the political crisis in Georgia, accompanied by mass protests, Trend reports citing RIA Novosti.

Izvestia noted that, despite the decrease in the “intensity of Russophobia”, the country does not have the proper level of security. In this case, the decision to restore flights will be made by Moscow without targeted consultations with Tbilisi.

According to the Special Representative of the Prime Minister of Georgia for relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze, the Georgian side will welcome the return of flights between the countries.

Note that at the end of June 2019, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a decree prohibiting airlines to transport Russian citizens to Georgia from July 8, 2019.
