Azerbaijan’s national air carrier to significantly replenish its fleet

In connection with the program to expand the air route network, the Azerbaijan’s national air carrier named AZAL plans to significantly increase its fleet, Trend reports citing the air company’s press service.

In particular, AZAL’s long-term plans include the task of acquiring over 20 new-generation aircraft of such leading manufacturers, as Boeing and Airbus.

An agreement has been signed with Boeing to purchase two wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft by Azerbaijan Airlines. These aircraft will become a new type of aircraft in the AZAL’s fleet. It is expected that the aircraft will be operated on new long-haul airline destinations in 2021-2022.

Jahangir Askerov, President, AZAL, said, “We plan to further develop relations with The Boeing Company, we are also considering the acquisition of eight Boeing 787 Dreamliners and three more Boeing 777s. This decision will increase our air route network on long-haul flights.”

The purchase of these aircraft will be discussed with Boeing President as part of a working visit of Jahangir Askerov to the head office of the Seattle Air Corporation.

In addition, AZAL is negotiating with the leading European aircraft manufacturer named Airbus to supply 10 new-generation Airbus A320Neo aircraft to Azerbaijan. These mid-range passenger aircraft have proven their worth and are an upgraded version of the popular Airbus A320 airliner with new-generation engines, improved on-board systems and larger wingtips. Airbus has already received over 7,000 orders for this aircraft from airlines around the world.
