Forest fire rages in eastern Georgia – border police helicopter involved in extinguishing

The Georgian Interior Ministry’s emergency management service has deployed additional forces to the Athens Gorge, where a forest fire is raging, the agency’s Facebook page says.

Currently, near the village of Ormotsi (Shida Kartli region), there are about 200 firefighter-rescuers, caterpillar firefighting equipment of the Ministry of Defense is used. A helicopter of the border police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is also involved in fire extinguishing.

There is no data on the area of ​​the fire yet.

A working headquarters has been created on the spot, led by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Joseph Chelidze and the head of the emergency management service Temur Mgebrishvili.
