Spokesperson for Russian President redirects compensation to airlines for prohibition of flights to Georgia to Russian Government

The issue of compensation to airlines for the prohibition of flights to Georgia lies with the Russian Government, the Spokesperson for the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov announced to reporters.

“I would recommend that you contact the Russian Government,” he said in response to a question about when the air companies would receive such compensation.

Russian Transport Minister Yevgeny Dietrich previously noted that consideration of the issue of payment of such compensation was postponed until 2020.

By a decree of the President of the Russian Federation of June 21, Russian airlines have been temporarily prohibited to operate flights to Georgia since July 8, 2019. Since the same day, Georgian airlines have also been prohibited to operate their direct flights en route Georgia – Russia.
