IATA: World’s air cargo showed the worst dynamics for 10 years in 2019

In 2019, the volume of air cargo in the world fell for the first time since 2012 – a decrease by 3.3%, and this is the worst indicator of the dynamics of this market since 2009, Prime reports with reference to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

“This is the weakest dynamics of the air cargo market since the global financial crisis in 2009, when they fell by 9.7%,” the organization said.

Among the negative factors last year, the organization notes a weak growth in world trade, which amounted to 0.9% only.

Including in December, the indicator of cargo transportation decreased by 2.7% in annual terms. At the same time, according to IATA, the strongest decline for this month was recorded in Latin America – by 5.3%, in the countries of the Asia-Pacific region (APR) – by 3.5%, in the countries of the Middle East and North America – by 3.4%. In Europe, the indicator fell by 1.1%, while in Africa there was an increase by 10.3%.

In addition, the volume of international passenger traffic, according to the organization, in December fell by 3.3%, and for the whole of 2019 – by 3.9%.
