Tashkent airport to be rehabilitated this year to increase passenger traffic

Reconstruction of Tashkent International Airport is planned this year. After refurbishment, the airport will be able to handle up to 7-8 million passengers a year, Uzbekistan Airports Director Ravshan Ismailov said, Kun.uz reported.

“Once the project has been approved, we will be able to accomplish rehabilitation by the year-end,” he said.

Upon launch of the new airport at the Tashkent-Vostochnyi aerodrome, the total passenger throughput together with Islam Karimov Airport will exceed 10 million passengers, Ravshan Ismailov stated.

Both airports will operate as one transport hub.

In future, the Tashkent airport will be moved outside the capital in the direction of Angren or Chinaz, he said.

Registration gates will be increased from 24 to 48 upon modernization of the airport. Construction of automated and more affordable parking lot is planned as well.
