Airport in southern Tajikistan closed due to lack of flights from Moscow

The international airport in Kurgan-Tube, the administrative center of Khatlon Region in southern Tajikistan, is temporarily closed due to the lack of flights from Moscow, Russia, the Tajik Ministry of Transport and Communications said.

The airport is temporarily closed due to the fact that VIM-Avia Airlines, Russia, has stopped operating its flights en route Moscow – Kurgan-Tube – Moscow,” the above-mentioned Ministry informed RIA Novosti News Agency, Russia.

Since 2014, VIM-Avia has operated its flights from Moscow to Kurgan-Tube five times a week. But in August 2017, these flights were reduced to two times a week, and in early September, they have been completely stopped.

“This air company is going to resume its flights to Kurgan-Tube in October 2017, as now VIM-Avia’s liners are engaged on flights on tourist routes in Russia and abroad,” the Ministry of Transport said.

For a while, 120 airport employees have been sent on leave without payment. The international airport in Kurgan-Tube does not have its own aircraft and exists due to taking and servicing flights of various airlines.
