It is difficult to build roads in Kyrgyzstan, so civil aviation sector is needed. This information was announced today by the Kyrgyz Minister of Transport and Roads Zhamshitbek Kalilov at the round table “Air Transport Importance for Economics”.

According to him, the ICAO leadership is on their official visit to Kyrgyzstan for the first time. “We understand that it is extremely important for our mountainous country to pay attention to air traffic. This will affect the development of tourism and economy”, Mr. Kalilov said.

Sapar Isakov, Manager of the Presidential Staff, said that the visit of ICAO gives hope that everything will turn out the way Kyrgyzstan dreams. “We are stuck in the period of transformation. Over 90 percent of the country’s territory is mountainous. This complicates the development of rail and motor road communication. To enter international markets, it is necessary to develop the civil aviation sector”, he said.

Mr. Isakov added that over the past three months, 280,000 passengers and over 7,000 metric tons of cargo have been transported. The aviation industry is slowly developing, however. Reconstruction of airports is currently under way. The civil aviation sector’s capacities are growing in the country.
